{"id":1706,"date":"2017-04-21T16:13:30","date_gmt":"2017-04-21T16:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/?page_id=1706"},"modified":"2018-10-22T15:45:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-22T19:45:12","slug":"1706-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/?page_id=1706","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The &#8220;First Church Built&#8221; by the members of\u00a0 the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in 1903<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/old-church.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-239\" src=\"https:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/old-church-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/old-church-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/old-church-70x70.jpg 70w, https:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/old-church-110x110.jpg 110w, https:\/\/stpaulmbcsaluda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/old-church.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 185px) 100vw, 185px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 1902, thirteen people under the leadership of <em>Reverend Fred Brown<\/em> met and began the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Mr. J.R. Abney<\/em> donated the land upon which our present church stands in 1903.In May 1903, our first Pastor, <strong><em>Reverend M.D. Mobley<\/em><\/strong>, preached\u00a0the first sermon. The first song was \u201cGo Preach My Gospel Said the Lord\u201d led by <em>Sister Mattie Clark<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Due to a fire St. Paul lost many of its records from churches archive, but we have persevered and rebuild since then. In October 1969, <strong><em>Reverend I.W. Hopkins<\/em><\/strong> became our Pastor and under his guidance, we built the education building, purchased a piano, rebuilt the sanctuary, purchased new pulpit and offering furniture, and organized the <em>Gospel and Shining Glory Choirs<\/em>. He served faithfully until his health failed him in 1999.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Reverend Bobby Derrick<\/em><\/strong> was our Pastor in 1999 through 2003 under his leadership the Sisterhood and Brotherhood Auxiliary was organized.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Reverend Melvin Searles Jr.<\/em><\/strong> served as Pastor from 2004 through 2009. He had one dedication, six baptisms and five restorations.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Reverend Stanley F. Price<\/em><\/strong> was installed on March 27, 2011. Reverend Price has\u00a0faithfully ushered in the Holy Spirit with laughter and joy. He re instituted our weekly bible study to meet\u00a0every <span data-term=\"goog_1682520045\">Wednesday<\/span> night. He along with his uncle, built and installed the new\u00a0steeple onto our sanctuary.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church current pastor is <strong>Reverend Jesse Thompson<\/strong>. The St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church family welcomes the journey of our beloved Pastor and First Lady who is currently leading us under the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>The following Pastors have served as our leaders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Reverend M.D. Mobley<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Reverend Pinking<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Reverend W.M. We are glad that this house which is built upon the \u201crock\u201d is still progressing. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the majestic leadership of our Sheppard, Rev. Dr. R. Dover, we hope to be motivated to tithe, study the word of God and evangelize. We hope to experience phenomenal growth and progress through the inspirational, motivational and visionary leadership of our Pastor.
